Google's Prototype Self Driving Autonomous Cars

We've covered many topics on the Google self driving car here before but now, Google is working on building out their own car for it.

The car, as you can see from the picture above, looks cartoon like, but it works. It has no steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or brake pedal, it just goes by itself - completely autonomous.

Google has been working on prototypes for this and showcased them yesterday on their Google blog. Here is a video of it in action:

When will this all come out? Probably 5-10 years. Google wrote:

We’re planning to build about a hundred prototype vehicles, and later this summer, our safety drivers will start testing early versions of these vehicles that have manual controls. If all goes well, we’d like to run a small pilot program here in California in the next couple of years. We’re going to learn a lot from this experience, and if the technology develops as we hope, we’ll work with partners to bring this technology into the world safely.
