Google Search Rankings Seems Unstable; More Algorithm Tweaks Or Penalties?

Google Unstable Motion

Over the past few days the SEO communities and forums have been in a somewhat state of stress watching their rankings and analytics fluctuate up and down. It is like Google is tweaking things in real time and the search results are very unstable. I am not sure I'd call it one of the many Google algorithm updates we've been covering but it does sure seem weird.

SEOs are saying their rankings are all over the place the past few days. I was suspecting there was some sort of update going on or maybe small tweaks but it is hard to say. The automated tools aren't showing much in terms of fluctuations or changes but the community, or at least some of it, feels a bit nervous about what is going on.

Here are some quotes from the ongoing WebmasterWorld and Black Hat World threads:

Our traffic still appears to be erratic, unpredictable, and generally down a little bit each and every day. However, tracked keywords remain stable in rankings and are not the worst I've ever seen them (but far from the best I've seen them).

I'm still frustrated, still annoyed, still angry that Google can't detect thin affiliate sites over actual service providers with better, more informative, and more factually accurate content.

Big drop today. Again second time after first august. On first August I have lost 70% of traffic. Now I have lost 90% of traffic.

I have no idea what's going on right now, but many of my keywords are dropping into oblivion. From the top of Google to page 3 or worse. It happened just a few hours ago. Is there another update going on?

Same here. In the last couple of hours I lost everything. After the EAT Update on 1 Augst I lost 80% of my traffic. At the update on 16 Oktober I lost 4% and NOW (today) I am complete destroyed. I am with all my (rest) keywords after page 4 or not anymore in the list.

I will have to agree with @skynet84, something is really happening again in the health sector.

I'm watching something very close to August 1st.

Nor do I say that it is a fluctuation, and really a new repositioning of the serp.

Guys there was some update today?

Yeah, I'm seeing lots of movement in the Finance sector today.

With the last update what happen like 3 days ago all my websites over 40+ have almost 50% drop in traffic, the same time, this is so weird never see this before.

Well this is frustrating. Another 20% drop, this time hitting most of my competitors as well, not just me (Retail). Enough already Google

I am not sure if this is some sort of penalty that was targeting maybe links or black hat tactics. I'd have to say it seems more black hat communities are buzzing about the changes. Have you noticed anything?

Here are the tracking tools that seem mostly idle.
