Google Fixes Local Search Problems?

train toyEarlier this week, we reported about massive local search ranking changes with Google and also covered how Google was investigating these reports. Last night, I also reported at Search Engine Land that Google won't say much about these changes.

Well, it seems based on some earlier reports I am seeing in the SEO community that things are reverting back to how they were prior to the update, the update Google won't talk about.

Dan Sharp posted on Twitter that "Google have fixed the IP overriding your set location bug."

Mehul Solanki posted on Twitter as well saying things seem to have gone back to normal.

I am seeing other chatter in the forums but it may be too early to tell if there was some sort of fix to the issue or not. It might just be data center fluctuations. I am waiting to hear more widespread reports to be more confident in this.

Forum discussion at Twitter.

Update: Linda, a respected local SEO consultant, added on Google+:

I doing some quick checking all the problems seem to be fixed with that "Dentist" (Location set to Dallas) example I've been using.

Everything checks out now. Documented in my orig thread - post #31. Thanks again! WHEW! Glad it was just a bug.
