Google: It's Easy To Read Between The Lines

Google Lines

As you all know from reading this blog, I try hard to read between the lines when it comes to what Google and Googlers are saying. I try not to stretch that too much but I do use my 15+ years of history of covering Google to kind of help me with those calls. I am not always right and John Mueller of Google warns of us being careful with that.

John said on Twitter in regards to the recent conference he spoke at, but also in a more general sense "It's easy to spend hours discussing each of those questions, Hannah did a great job in moving forwards to get to other questions." If I would read between the lines here, he is saying that the person who interviewed him knew she had to get to more questions and thus kept things going. He could have spent more time answering the questions and then give clearer answers but he didn't have the time.

John added "Similarly it's easy to read too much between the lines based on assumptions, fears, & personal interests." Reading into this line, John is saying in these cases where he cannot give too much detail - like above or maybe on Twitter or other areas - it is easy to read between the lines and make assumptions that might be wrong.

Here is John's tweet:

Trust me - I worry about this all the time when covering what Googlers are saying.
