Google The First Expedition To The South Pole Doodle

Today on the Google home page in many countries, no the US (although initially it was set to launch globally) is a special animated Google Doodle, aka special Google logo, for the 105th anniversary of the first expedition to the south pole.

This expedition was lead by a Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen on December 14, 1911. He was accompanied by four other people on this expedition.

Here is a photo from Wikipedia showing Roald Amundsen, Helmer Hanssen, Sverre Hassel and Oscar Wisting at Polheim, the tent was erected at the South Pole on December 16, 1911. The top flag is the Flag of Norway; the bottom is marked "Fram". This was photograph by Olav Bjaaland.

Google wrote, "in honor of that achievement, today's Doodle depicts the crew at the finish line, taking a moment to bask in the glory while the Antarctic wind whips outside their tent."
