Google Reaction

Last week, Google said they are going to work with the open web standards to bring the benefits of AMP to the web standards. Most of us were thinking this move was done to calm down the media and developers who are not happy with AMP and how it goes around some of those standards.

So Glenn Allsopp asked Malte Ubl, one of the leads from the Google AMP team, directly if this move was triggered from the media backlash. Malte answered like a politician and dodged the question, which I do not blame him for.

He said "Google's goal was always to maximize the percentage of fast pages on the internet. Previous efforts mostly through education had not as much success. AMP did. Now we are trying to extend that to the wider web."
