Google's John Mueller: Nofollow All Guest Posts Links

Google Guest Post

Google's John Mueller said that if it was him, he would nofollow all guest blog posts links - even if you are a regular contributor to a site and you write very high quality content, just nofollow the links out to your own site. You can profit from those links other ways, he said and this way, you don't have to worry about it.

He said this at the 10:54 mark into this mornings hangout. Again, it doesn't seem this is the company approach, but this is John offering his personal advice here.

Here is what he said:

I would almost go so far as to say well, even those those kind of guest posts where you do contribute significantly to the site maybe it makes sense just to have those links as nofollow. And have it such that you kind of profit from from the people who actually go to your site because I think that you wrote something fantastic and they're really interested in hearing more from you.

Here is the video embed when he said it, but you can rewind to get more context:

This question was around even contributing on a routine basis to an expert publication, with good editorial review.

Google keeps telling people not to guest post for links and several years ago, we know it got out of control. In 2012, Google said guest blogging is okay sometimes and not other times.

But times have changed and you probably should be more cautious today, as a writer and an editor.
