Facebook Explains How Their Spam Algorithm Will Fight Click Bait

facebook logoFacebook announced that they are going to weed out click bait headlines and posts from the newsfeed because their users do not like them.

The two items they are going to fight against are:

(1) Click-Baiting Headlines

(2) Links Within Photo Captions

The neat part is Facebook shares how they will tackle each issue.

With item one, the click-bait headlines, they will use two metrics:

(A) How long people spend reading an article away from Facebook. So a factor of bounce rates from the click off Facebook and then back to Facebook.

(B) By looking at the ratio of people clicking on the content compared to people discussing and sharing it with their friends.

The second item will prioritize showing links in the link-format, and show fewer links shared in captions or status updates.
