Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • SEO Myth: Are Competitors Backlinks Not Counted?
I always wonder how certain SEO myths get started. A new one I spotted today at WebmasterWorld is saying that if you have some of the same links of your competitors, Google will discount them for you, since your competitors already have those links. In other words, if you have a link from the Yahoo Directory category page after your competitor, Google would only count the link to your competitor and not you. Wow! He
  • Google Help Center's Rap Video
Since we cover search topics as discovered in help forums, I have no choice but to share this outstanding rap video by Matt (not Cutts) of Google. Matt is one of the people responsible behind Google's Help Center and he made a rap video describing how people can use it. Here is that video, but he points to sections on the page, so I included a screen shot below: Here is the full transcript of
  • Yahoo News Tests "Infinite Browse" Feature
Yahoo announced they are testing new modules on news articles at Yahoo News. The new modules are called "Infinite Browse" modules and contain related news based of "search technology." Yahoo said: We're leveraging our search technology to help people browse and explore things they’re interested in, such as images, videos, news articles, slideshows, and search suggestions – without having to go to a separate web page, type in a query and hit that "search" button.
  • The Wizard of Oz Google Doodle
If you visit Google today, you will see Google sporting a special Doodle/logo for the 71st anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. The first showing of the legendary film was on August 12, 1939, 71 years ago. Why did Google celebrate it's 71st anniversary? Why not the 70th or wait till the 75th? I am not sure, maybe there is no reason for the number 71 or maybe because there was a re-release in 1971?
