Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • Picture of New Google Image Search Design
Two days ago, we reported some people noticing a new design for Google Images. More and more people began reporting it but no one was quick enough to snap a screen shot and post it. I did some research and found one person on Twitter who posted a screen capture of the new design. So this looks legit and here are before and after shots. The New Google Image Search Design: The Old (current) Google
  • Beware of Google Business Photos Scam
In April, Google relaunched the Google Local Business Center as Google Places and one part of that relaunch was the release of a FREE Google Business Photo program. The Business Photo program lets you include pictures of your business in Google Maps, done by Google. The key points, as Google said are: It's free! Just apply to have Google take photographs. Show off your business to new customers around the world. Enhance your Place Page
  • Link Update In Google Webmaster Tools
Folks at WebmasterWorld are discussing a recent link update in their Google Webmaster Tools link reports. Now, we know that Caffeine resulted in the recent spike in links found in Google Webmaster Tools. The first time since then, Google has updated those links. Some say, it is updated every three days anyway and we normally don't report link updates in Webmaster Tools, because they are updated frequently, but this seems to be the first one
  • Want in Google Definitions? Maybe Use DL, DT, and DD Tags
The last time we discussed how to rank in Google Definitions was about two-plus years ago. Although Google has consistently removed the traffic value for third-party sites with Google Definitions, it still can drive some traffic to your site. A new WebmasterWorld thread has revived interest around getting included in Google Definitions. In that thread, WebmasterWorld administrator says he has had success using the DL and DT tag/elements. You can learn more about how to
  • Official: Yahoo Testing Bing Powered Results In July (aka Now)
Yesterday, I received an email from Yahoo that discussed the migration plan for the organic side of Yahoo Search. As I wrote at Search Engine Land, in that email, Yahoo officially confirmed that they will (if not already) that they are testing Bing powered Yahoo Search results this month. The email said: Though much of our testing is already happening offline, this month we’ll also test the delivery of organic and paid search results provided
  • Google Changes Google News Design Based On Complaints
I am shocked, honestly shocked. Google recently redesigned Google News, and based on our poll, 85% hated the new design. I have been tracking complaints in the forums for weeks now and the complaints have no slowed. I really thought Google would not care, like with the complaints with the Google fade in and web search redesign but they did - they caved and they made changes to appease their users. I assume enough users
