Yuri Gagarin Google Logo

Google has a special Google logo, aka Doodle, for Yuri Gagarin. It is the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight.

The logo is pretty cool in that it is animated and you see a spaceship launch off into space. Of course you have the spaceman in a spacesuit and the planet and of course the Google logo.

Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into outer space and it was on April 12, 1961. His Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on that date. This was obviously done under the Soviet Union at the time.

Yuri was born on March 9, 1934 and only lived 34 years, dying shortly after his birthday on March 27, 1968. Sadly he died in a routine training flight from Chkalovsky Air Base. The reason for the crash is not 100% known but there are plenty of conspiracy theories.

Anyway, here is the logo in animated form:

Another interesting note is that this is not the first time Google honored Yuri Gagarin. They had a logo in 2007 for Yuri Gagarin for the 46th anniversary of that day.

YouTube also has a special logo for the day:

Google's frequent commemoration of the achievements of communists is appalling.

Type your comment here. I remember this space flight. I didn't think it could be true. Wow, what a great 50 years. Hope we can and will continue. Space flight has always been good for our country's morale. It gives us hope for the future.

It's the first human spaceflight, Bruce, just because the communists beat us to it doesn't mean that Google shouldn't recognize it as a universal event.

Communist, socialist, capitalist... we are all humans. Celebrate our humanity, end bigotry and predjudice.

A wonderful tribute to one of the few redeeming events in Communist history. Now I'd like to see freedom and collaboration celebrated as well. If we used our minds together we could end our dependence on oil and nuclear power overnight as quickly as pressing the "пожар" button 50 years ago today.

I think this is the best way to make more memorable the day for that google changes its logo shape as well as connect world wide people to that special day. brilliant effort well done.

I appreciate GOOGLE. This is how all human should appreciate one another; irrespective of race, class, ideology, religeon etc. Certainly, the world is fastly becoming a one village and there are hopes for better life. I was about twelve years old then, but I can still remember vividly how excited we were in Nigeria; inspite of the fact that we lack the scientific-risk knowledge then. Now today, I am still celebrating it in Malaysia. See how smallthe world is!

and coal, (though I know people dont start wars with or over coal or its byproducts). Not that Google hasn't celebrated freedom and collaboration before (inb4 China internets censorship), but God knows the world needs more of it.
