The head of the Google search team, the man who is in charge of every search you do at Google, the man responsible for the Penguin and Panda updates, Amit Singhal overheard a conversation while having coffee at Starbucks about those updates.
The conversation was between a webmaster or SEO and someone else where the webmaster said, he no longer is able to trick Google to rank his sites high in Google since after the Penguin and Panda update.
Amit tweeted this a few hours ago:
Overheard next table at Starbucks, "With Google Panda and Penguin our tricks don't work." Glad they didn't recognize me.

So while people blame me for this, in fact - I just spent 8 minutes on the phone with someone cursing at me and on the verge of crying to me about Google's updates - Amit goes off free. Fine, I'll take all the blame. :)
How funny is that tweet?

I can only assume that their tricks were simply poor...

This is classic! I'm from South Africa, so no chance I'll ever get a coffee in the same shop as a Google big wig. Sounds like these webmaster / SEO chaps do need to get on top of their game though! How did they not recognize Amit Singhal ;P

That might not have even happened. It might just be a PR attempt to steer the conversation to Google's stated goal that Penguin is all about eliminating webspam and that it's "working." That's better than people talking about the bad serps that Penguin createf

What i don't like in this story is the fact that Penguin is obviously the exact opposite of Panda, so how did this webmaster manage to do both in one shot? Interesting.

Obviously Amit hasn't seen the website about MOLD ranking top 10 for bad credit personal loans. ROFL! Amit, shouldn't flatter himself, and I highly doubt that conversation took place. Good try Amit.

Amit obviously hasn't seen the website about MOLD ranking top 10 for 'bad credit personal loans'. ROFL. He shouldn't flatter himself. I highly doubt that conversation actually took place. Good try, Amit!

Can't believe he's at Starbucks. Ethics are slipping, obviously. Don't be evil, indeed!

I heard someone in McDonalds telling me that Matt Cutt's blog is becoming less popular and that it has lost page rank. I wonder what advice we can give Matt?
