Google+ News Shows In Google's News Web Results Box

Rob Garner posted publicly on Facebook an image of a new Google test where Google is showing news results from Google+ in the OneBox area for news content within web search results. Got all that?

A picture will explain it better:

Google News Google+ Results

As you can see, a search for [cory monteith] returns a standard news box, because of the recent news of his death. But below that, Rob is seeing news results from Google+ profiles about the news. I assume he follows and others within his circles?

Google has been forcing Google+ results onto searchers, so this should be no surprise.

You can see these only if you are logged-in, right?

Why should news stories posted on Google+ be treated any differently than news stories posted on the rest of the Web?

First of all they are not treated any differently, you still have traditional results. And Twitter chose not to renew their agreement with Google 2 years ago. And when Twitter results used to appear in Google Search, no one complained...

Hi Matt - actually, I don't have any of those profiles circled. They basically showed up as a news placement. Rob
