Google Search Cursor Goes Missing

Google Missing CursorOver the past week or so, I have been seeing reports from Google users that the cursor is not showing up in the Google search box.

Google is aware of the issue and said it would be resolved soon, but it seems like even about a week later, some are still experiencing the issue.

The image above right shows a blinking cursor, which is typical of what you should see when you place your cursor in a text box. But for some users, there is no cursor showing up in the box even when you click in the box.

A Google Web Search Help thread:

When Google.com loads, the flashing cursor is inside the search box and you can start typing right away. With Google.ca you have to move the mouse into the search box, click, then start typing.

I believe the issue is only affecting some Internet Explorer users, including IE9 users.

Many changes & errors are being experienced by users in Google these days. This issue has only been seen for internet explorer users according to my observation. Google seems to come up with big changes in its Algorithm as well as presentation way.

I am having this problem with IE8.  The cursor is not visible on Google's home page.  I have to manually click on the search bar for the cursor to appear.  Please keep us updated on this, as I couldn't find anything else about it except for your site.  Thanks.

I am using IE 8. If I clear my history (ccleaner) the curser is in the search box when I open google's home page. When I change search options (filtering, instant) the curser is gone after opening Google's home page again. Hmmmm.

This is not acceptable! If you are a touch typist it is less of a problem but most of us look at keyboard as we type so DO NOT notice that there was no cursor wehn we started typing until we discover the seacrh box has remained empty of all the words we just typed. Needs fixing urgently as other seacrh engines are less efficient at finding 'stuff'.

I am using Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7. The flashing cursor appears in the Google search box but when you type nothing happens. I have to click into the search box before typing to make it work. I think it used to be ready to go in IE6.

I'm using Firefox 13 on Windows 7 and I am getting the same issues. It is now July 2012. I dual boot on my other operating system I use Linux Ubuntu 12.04 running Firefox 13. I don't get the same issues happening on that operating system. This issue only happens with Google on Windows 7

I'm using Chrome on Windows 8 and getting the same issues, April 2013. You would think they would have fixed this by now!
