Google Image Search Ranking Update

Google Image Search UpdateIt has been a while since I reported on a Google Image Search update but there seems to have been one over the weekend.

A WebmasterWorld thread and Google Webmaster Help thread have posts about it. The WebmasterWorld one comes from someone who has been monitoring the Google Image Search index for as long as I can remember.

It is not often where forum member, Zeus, calls any update "big" but here he did. He said, there are "extreme changes" in the index.

Another webmaster said he ranked very well for 8 years and all of a sudden, his images are no longer to be found for their main keyword searches.

Did you notice a major image search update at Google?

There is no official word from Google on this update, in fact, Google has never really offered "weather reports" for image search updates.

Maybe it has to do with the EMD update (exact match domain Google update)?

I actually scheduled this post, I wrote it Saturday night, so I am not sure if things will go back to normal between the time I write this and when it is posted on Monday morning. I will be offline until Tuesday night and won't be able to check until then (I am sorry).

Forum discussion at WebmasterWorld and Google Webmaster Help.

Note: This story was scheduled to be posted on this day, but was written earlier.

It's not like that.. The sites got hit by low quality EMD are not ranking on search as well as IMAGES anymore.. I have not seen this in any earlier update. Sites hit by Panda were still ranking well in Images...

not sure if you will get this Randy but I would be more than happy to do a free SEO analysis to see if I can determine why this has affected your site - if you have a site that was affected by the EMD algo and image algo (unless they are the same algo - which I suspect they are)

I manage a lifestyle blog (http://www.top10ways.org) that was hit pretty hard by this. My current assumption is that this happened because a large portion of my traffic was coming from Google pics (I was one of the first for KW such as "save electricity" or "relax") and Google completely took these rankings away and substituted my photos for others. I currently have no idea how to fix this, so if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I am not an expert at all with SEO, but have been using SEO through Godaddy. My website ranked on Page 1 for the last 8 years and all of a sudden since July, its nowhere to be found. This means I am also losing sales (about 90%). I am a small business and depend on my website for income. So this loss of sales is really bad for me. I also do Google adwords which is not converting to sales for the last 2 months. So I decided to stop the adwords as I barely have any income coming in. SEO on Godaddy says a broken link of 404. I am clueless to 404, Panda, Penguin & whatnot. Would appreciate it if someone would help take a look at my website for free. Thanks so much!

Why would you even?

Your page doesn't look as though it deserves a high ranking. Good job by Google. Sorry to say this.

Its a new concept for me in Image optimization what kind of a ranking is scheduled. And how would the algorithm will affect those image results.!! I noticed the Twit about EMD update by Matt.. Not sure about the image algo... http://www.premiumseocompany.com/alaska-seo.asp

It's RUBBISH! They have removed all the best functions, colour, size etc. Why would you remove functionality? Google have some answering to do!

404 does not effect SERPs in Google as Matt Cutt describe it. you should analyze your backlink data, may be you have "Direct Anchor" tag while building backlink. Change them in Brand.
