Google Easter/April Fools 2013 Update?

Google Easter LogoOver the weekend there was some chatter in the WebmasterWorld thread of some shifts and changes in the Google rankings.

Here are some comments from Webmasters:

Has there been a update ( downgrade ) today? We now have the worsest traffic ever. Never seen so much stupid serps like today. Strange ( !) google shopping is again on the point.

same here...nice natural pattern started after midnight last night, continued up until about 10 am then BAM! everything shut down with hardly a trickle of traffic all day. Looks like we got day parted again. Looks like two distinct data sets are cycling. I'm sure the day cycle is filling G's coffers.

To be fair, it was Easter weekend and maybe sales and traffic in general is down?

But one person said:

My site seems to be doing a little better today.

That being said, Mozcast reported higher activity than normal on Saturday/Sunday. The temperature on Saturday was 78, which is high. I won't be able to check in on Monday or Tuesday, as I am offline for Passover. But do check the ongoing WebmasterWorld thread to see if it is more wide spread by then.

And I know I scheduled this post for April 1st, April Fools Day, but this is not a April Fools joke.

Forum discussion at WebmasterWorld.

This story was scheduled to be posted today and was not written today.

I received 2 messages in Webmaster Tools. One that site traffic increased on 25th and 1 that site traffic decreased on 28th. And I didn't touch a thing on my site...

Hey Google! How bout' rolling out the Penguin Refresh, I mean 6 months really? Many of us have been killed with this Penguin / Manual Penalty with no recovery. What is the point of revoking manual penalties when you know your just going to have these companies melt in the algorithm? Going on a year here with this penalty, ever heard of time served? Do the crime, do the time?

Yea we are starting to see some drops. This is real frustrating when things were going well before. Why can't we just one big update or heads up so we know what to expect. Isn't fair.

how this site digsitevalue . net is getting back to in ranking after being dropped in ranking a few week ago. it's a crap site but i think someone from google personally is in love with this site. why google things a site is not good to rank whereas the site digsitevalue to rank in top 10 and thats too by using the title and description of the site that is being dropped in ranking by google. does it mean using other content is good thing to do.. They have removed the redirection from vault9.com and hence, digsitevalue PR is NA from 7. When they removed the redirection they got dropped in ranking but with the last weekend update, they are now back in ranking. Why wasting a SERP position to this crap site??
