Bug: New Google Docs Hidden

Google Docs logoGary Price, who is now back writing with Danny and team, tipped me off to a Google Docs Help thread disclosing a bug with new documents.

There was a bug where adding new Google Docs would go missing from your documents list. The only way to have them show up would be to add a * to the search box within Google Docs. Google then claimed to have fixed the bug, and people confirmed the fix. But now, the bug seems to be back.

The bug started in late May and was reportedly fixed on June 17th. Ten days later, June 27th, the bug reappeared.

Personally, I cannot replicate it, but I am told it is impacting a nice number of Google Docs users. One user said:

I'm having the same problem today, but not previously. New documents are not showing up in the Docs list, either in the collection view or in the All Items view. I can get them to show up temporarily in the All Items list by searching for known strings from them, and to show up temporarily in collections by "re-adding" them to the collection, but they disappear from both intermittently. (Chrome 12.0.742.100).

Update: Gary Price who was tracking this bug has posted more timelines and information at InfoDocket.
