Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • July 2010 Google Webmaster Report
This is our monthly report on changes that took place at Google over the past 30-days or so. You can see our June 2010 report and see it was all about the May Day update and possible signs of Caffeine being live. Well, now Caffeine is live, which may be the reason for so many things going on this month, as opposed to the previous months. This report is typically based off the monthly WebmasterWorld
  • Google Showing Related Videos With Play Icons
Search for [how to hack a wireless network] and look at some of the results. You will see a new feature that shows sub-video results with little play icons. The play icons look similar to the play icons used on Google Music Search. Here is a picture: This was first spotted by a searcher at Google Blogoscoped Forums. As you can see, for the result above, it seems like not all the "related" videos are
  • Google AdWords Monthly Keyword Volume Updates A Week After The Month
A Google AdWords API Forum thread has complaints from one API user that the data for the monthly keyword volume looks wrong. In response to his complaint, Googler Eric Koleda explained how recent that data is. Now this question specifically answers that API calls and not specific to the keyword tool. But I

For example a search for ["query goes here] would be the same as ["query goes here"]. That is no longer the case. Try it yourself by searching for ["It was a big turning point] vs. ["It was a big turning point"]. The results are different. Three days
  • Breaking: Yahoo Now Testing Bing's Search Algorithm & Results?

The thing is, I have never seen such a large influx of buzz around Yahoo Search results, at least not for the past 3 years or so. People are reporting huge, I mean huge, shifts with Yahoo's search results. At first, the folks at WebmasterWorld have called it a bug but some are
  • 4th Of July 2010 Logos From Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask.com & Others
A very happy fourth of July to all our American readers! There are some very creative logos from the search engines today. Google has a double logo, doodle, one for July 4th and it dupes as a happy birthday logo for Rube Goldberg. Rube Goldberg, as per Wikipedia, was a "Jewish American cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. Goldberg is best known for a series of popular cartoons he created depicting complex devices that perform
  • Video Recap of Weekly Search Buzz :: July 2, 2010
There is tons of important stuff taking place this week in the SEO space, so I ran through as much of it as I could in a short period of time. First, Google did their second PageRank update in a single month. Google also updated their image search algorithm and filter. Google Webmaster Tools is showing a lot more linkage data due to Caffeine. They also now allow a single Sitemap file for all content
