Getting Hacked a New Link Building / Bait Idea?

This morning ShoeMoney.com (be careful visiting that site now, may have malicious code on it) was hacked, I reported it over at Cartoon Barry. ShoeMoney.com currently looks like;

Just do not go to the site, it will redirect you after about 10 seconds to a malicious script.

But this got me thinking, ShoeMoney, is a really good link baiter. What if you had a semi-popular site and hacked the site yourself to get people talking about your site and linking to it? A neat link building / bait idea? I would think so, if it was a fake hack. But this hack seems to be the real deal. Who knows how much damage was done and how far back this set Shoe. Shoe, we are here for you.

Update: Seems like ShoeMoney's partner in crime on the NetIncome show had her blog hacked as well at planetandrea.com - careful again! Seems like someone is mad at them?

Oh and Google's blogger is down as I reported via SEW blog.

My vista forum site was hacked a couple of weeks ago. In fact, the entire server was hacked because of some server vulnerability. Luckily, it was just all index pages that were replaced, so restoring wasn't too difficult, but it sure made me MAD. I feel for ya, Shoe (unless of course you did do it yourself).

I hope someone will follow up with exactly how the sites are being hacked. If this is a WordPress vulnerability, or it's being done by some other means is important to know. If you find anything out, I'd appreciate another post on it!

Thanks,
Doug

Seems both links, shoemoney and planetandrea, are down for me. Bummer that they got hacked. Shoemoney's a popular guy....what can I say

My Utah Skies website was hacked yesterday by "some punk kids" according to my ISP. They then used server resources to launch a DOS attack on another site. Interesting that kids could do such a thing :-\
