Photos From The Google Walkout

As everyone should know, at least I hope they do, Google employees hosted a company wide walkout to protest sexual misconduct issues, better equal pay, improved harassment policies and more. Here are some of the photos I found on Instagram, the one above is from one of the early Googlers who lead up parts of search at the company.

**VOLUME** Today, at the #googlewalkout for #realchange, when I was feeling vulnerable about protesting my employer, I was approached by a senior Googler who had emcee’d my Noogler orientation training. She thanked me for showing up, and the she reassured me that to change systemic inequality, we have to take ownership and demand it. Clearly Google’s execs need some guidance. WE DEMAND: An end to forced arbitration. A commitment to end pay and opportunity inequity. A publicly disclosed sexual harassment transparency report. A clear, uniform, globally inclusive process for reporting sexual misconduct safely and anonymously. A Chief Diversity Officer who answers directly to the CEO. An employee representative board seat. Will Google hear the thousands of protesters who showed up today all over the globe? Only time will tell. #timesuptech #enoughisenough #didthepayoffpayoff? #shegetsreported #hegetspaid #notokgoogle #heygooglewtf

I attended the Google Walkout at the headquarters in Mountain View this morning. It was real and raw to see women we all largely think of as on top of the world, who shared the same old stories of abuse of power, discrimination, harassment and unethical behavior we all know too well. Event organizers said they believed leadership heard them and that they were expecting change in the company. The @googlewalkout movement worldwide published five demands: *An end to Forced Arbitration in cases of harassment and discrimination *A commitment to end pay and opportunity inequity *A publicly disclosed sexual harassment transparency report *A clear, uniform, globally inclusive process for reporting sexual misconduct *Promote the Chief Diversity Officer to answer directly to the CEO and appoint an Employee Representative to the Board • • • • #googlewalkout #timesup #dontbeevil #notokgoogle #metoo #empoweringwomen #sanfranciscobay #mysanfrancisco #igerssf #goldenstate #sfeveryday #timesuptech #documentinglife #whyididntreport #metoomovement #believesurvivors #believewomen @kqednews @kqed @verge
