Pete Watson-Wailes

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Pete Watson-Wailes is is 32 years old, married and is expecting their first child in June. They live in Herefordshire, in the West Midlands of England and is most well known in the SEO industry for his technical SEO prowess.

Pete has been doing SEO since 2003, so he has been around for some time now. After working at agencies and other companies over the years, he started his own company at the beginning of this year. Pete is very active on Twitter, sharing nuggets of information throughout the day. He is active in many SEO communities, including the Moz community. He has contributed content to many publications over the years and is always eager to share and learn.

Shawn Cohen nominated Pete and wrote:

Pete provides technical SEO insight, especially around PWAs and JS, that most SEOs couldn't even speak to since many of us are non-technical. As a programmer, Pete does a great job of turning his knowledge into insights for search marketers.

Plus, Pete's a super nice guy, always there to help answer questions, even if you've never met him in person.

Pete Watson-Wailes Bio: Pete is the founder of Tough & Competent, a messaging and engagement consultancy.

He’s spent almost 14 years in and around the industry, helping companies from start-up SMEs to multinationals like Google, Red Bull and Arcadia.

Favorite thing about the SEM community? My favourite thing about the community is its openness to sharing best practice. There's long been a feeling in the industry of wanting to help others make the web a better place, by providing free advice and help, through blogs, videos and so on. It's made it one of the friendliest professional communities I've been involved with.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? My advice to any SEOs out there would be to take the time to hone the storytelling side of the craft for content, and to learn how to build your own basic tools for technical work. The more you can understand how the web works, the better your technical consulting will be, and the better you understand story and emotional hooks, the better your content work can be.

Favorite things in general? My favourite thing to do in the summer is go to an equestrian eventing show. There's little more enjoyable than having a picnic in the summer, and watching the cross country with a G&T.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? In the search community, I'd hope I'm known for providing solid, interesting technical advice.
