OrkutGoogle announced that after ten years, they will be closing down Orkut, their first social network.

Google is shutting down the service on September 30, 2014 but the public communities will be archived and viewable starting on the shutdown date. Google added:

It's been a great 10 years, and we apologize to those still actively using the service. We hope people will find other online communities to spark more conversations and build even more connections for the next decade and beyond.

Orkut opened to the public, not a private beta, in October 2006 but was launched in 2004.
