Murat Yatagan

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Murat Yatagan is 32 years old, lives in Munich, Germany. Murat worked at Google for five years in the search quality team fighting spam, so we covered him a lot here both in his role at Google and after leaving Google.

Murat is unique in that he is an former Googler who worked in search quality but is now an SEO selling SEO services. There are a few out there that do this and Murat is one of them.

Murat speaks all around the world, shares information on social media and writes content helping the SEO industry get smarter and do better. He was very transparent as a Googler and now as an SEO, he is very vocal by asking Google some of the harder and more technical questions around how search and search quality work. He is super friendly, super nice and has helped countless people in our industry over the past almost ten years.

He was nominated by someone who doesn't want to be revealed who wrote:

Murat is a great technical SEO, who makes great use of his extensive knowledge and is a respected discussion partner on how to improve your organic footprint.

Murat Yatagan Bio: Murat Yatağan is a growth marketing professional with more than 9 years of expertise on SEO and UX, of which 5 years derives from his Senior Product Analyst role at Google Search Quality Team in Ireland. His focus at Google was dealing with webspam issues in global indexes, and he was specifically contributing to work of manual actions, reconsideration requests, site recoveries, backlink profile analysis and community management.

Apart from that, Murat gained expertise on technical SEO, high quality content creation strategy, outreach and international SEO throughout providing consultancy to many global initiatives from various verticals.

He is currently living in Munich and working for Global Savings Group as a Senior SEO Manager with a specific focus on technical SEO and offsite quality.

He is a member of Advisory Board at two startups from Turkey (KTH and indisera) focusing on growth strategies and technical consultancy. He has been a Judge for UK, European and MENA Search Awards since 2016. He’s a regular speaker of industry events, podcasts and meet-ups. As an active member of the SEO Community, he is authoring on organic search and digital marketing. Plus, he offers in-company SEO trainings and occasionally gives lectures on SEO at universities.

He has a M.Sc. in Engineering Management from IYTE and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from IEU.

Favorite thing about the SEO community? Discussions about understanding the searchers' intent, users' behavior on site and technical aspects of websites and their interactions with users and search engine bots/crawlers.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Focus on the user plus align with the best practices of white hat SEO, and the else will follow. Because the one and only human identifiable ranking factor is awesomeness.

Favorite things in general? I love to slap my bass guitar and traveling around the globe to explore local foods and drinks.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? Technical SEO Consultant, User Experience Optimizer, etc. In short a technical marketer.
