Ruth Asawa Google Wire Sculpture Doodle

Today is Asian-American Pacific Islander month and to commemorate the kick off the month, Google has a Doodle featuring Ruth Asawa's wire sculpture work. The Doodle is a wire sculpture of the Google logo. Ruth Asawa was an American sculptor whose parents were immigrants from Japan.

Ruth Asawa was born on January 24, 1926 in Norwalk, California and died at the age of 87 on August 6, 2013 in San Francisco, California. A lot of her work is now in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, while some are on permanent display at San Francisco's de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park.

Google wrote on their Doodle page, "In honor of Asian-American Pacific Islander month in the US, today’s Doodle celebrates Ruth Asawa, the acclaimed Japanese-American artist and educator who overcame great adversity throughout her journey, ultimately exhibiting her intricate wire sculptures and works on paper in museums around the world."
