Google.com/ncr (No Country Redirect) Not Working For Some

Google Ncr

Google's No Country Redirect, where you can visit google.com instead of your local Google site at google.com/ncr is not working for some users outside of the US.

There is a thread at Google Web Search Help and a post by former Googler named Pedro Dias on Twitter.

Pedro said "Seems http://google.com/ncr (No Country Redirect) parameter isn't working anymore as of last week..." Same issue with many of the folks in the thread. But it is not dead for everyone, many are still saying it works.

This may be a sign that this feature is going away or it might just be a weird bug. I emailed Google almost 24 hours ago and still no answer, but they are looking into it.

We did have a bug with it back in 2012 and in 2010 with China. But it has been pretty stable since.

Google did recently drop the country search filter and it might be that Google is doing away with this all.

Interestingly enough, Google's John Mueller joked on Twitter that now he has an excuse to expense trips around the world to test the search results in those locations.

Forum discussion at t Google Web Search Help and Twitter.
