Google updated the upload a product reviews data source to Merchant Center help document to now say that you can do this via the Merchant Center API. Previously, the document said, "API isn’t currently supported for product reviews data sources." Now it says, "Add product reviews using API."
Google also made several other changes to the help document, from the previous version including changes to the interface navigation, onboarding process and policy disapprovals.
Here is the before and after on the reviews part within the API.
Before it had this line:
Now it shows this:
The other changes include:
- API Support Added: The old document explicitly stated APIs were not supported. The new version introduces full support for Google's Merchant API to automatically upload and manage review data.
- Updated Interface Navigation: Navigation instructions were updated from legacy Merchant Center (ANALYTICS > Reviews > Product reviews > Product review data sources) to the Merchant Center Next layout (Products & store > Reviews > Product reviews > Manage product review sources button).
- Clarified Onboarding Process: The new version adds an explicit step stating that after you submit the interest form, a Google agent must review your application and manually enable your Merchant Center account.
- New Policy Disapproval Guidance: Added a dedicated note explaining how to handle products disapproved for policy violations (e.g., Healthcare and Medicine policies), instructing merchants to resolve the issue and request a manual review for those specific products. Updated Terminology: Replaced older phrasing like "feed submission" with "data source submission" to match updated Merchant Center branding.
