Google quietly posted in the changelog yesterday that they have removed the ability to edit and see the business listings introduction or description field.

Google said:

The Introduction/Description field is no longer editable in Google My Business. It only displays to users in Google+, and may still be edited there. Editing of attributes, coming soon to all Google My Business views, will be an improved way to describe your business to users on Google Search and Maps.

Truth is, I wasn't sure if this was a big deal, so I waited on reporting this until I saw a few threads pop up.

The Local Search Forums has one local SEO saying "That will solve the description field spamming problem, I guess. Not that it ever helped to spam that field, but still."

Truth is, I guess Google felt the field is something unnecessary and dropped it.

Why do you think they removed it?
