If you visit Google India today, instead of seeing the festive New Years Eve logo on all other Google home pages, you will see a somber Google home page with a white candle.
When you place your mouse over the candle, the message that comes up reads:

This is about bringing awareness to what happened and inciting change in that region on how the law and people respond to such horrible crimes.
Wikipedia explains the case as follows:
A female physiotherapy intern was beaten and gang raped in Delhi on 16 December 2012, and died thirteen days later while undergoing emergency treatment in Singapore for brain and gastrointestinal damage from the assault. After watching a film in South Delhi in the early evening, she and a male companion boarded a bus being driven as a "joyride", thinking it was a public bus. The only other passengers were five men who were friends of the driver, who then assaulted the pair.She was taken to Safdarjang Hospital, received multiple surgeries, and was placed on mechanical ventilation. On 26 December, she was moved to Singapore for further treatment, where she died on 29 December.
So horrible and Google is doing what they can here to bring awareness.
