Looks like Google is trying out the expandable featured snippets in the knowledge panel location. Mordy Oberstein spotted this and posted on Twitter videos and screen shots of it. I can replicate it.
If you search for [allergy peanut] on desktop or mobile Google search, you can see it yourself. Here is a screen shot:
Here is what it looks like when expanded:
The weird thing is when you switch the query around from [allergy peanut] to [peanut allergy] you get a featured snippet instead that is NOT expandable:
Weird!
