Google: Having Duplicate Meta Descriptions Doesn't Mean Your Site Is Broken

Google has a report in Google Search Console that shows you your duplicate meta descriptions, the report is called the HTML improvements report. It will document "Meta description problems: Potential problems with duplicate or otherwise problematic meta descriptions." Are they real problems?

Well, John Mueller of Google implies they are not really problems or mean your site is broken. On Twitter he said "these [duplicate meta descriptions report] are just for your information, they're not a sign that anything is broken."

Back in 2013, Matt Cutts said it's better not to have meta descriptions then have duplicate ones. Here is that video again:

But in terms of quality, Google has said these meta descriptions are not an issue either.

In short, meta descriptions are not that big of a deal for search, espesially if you look at the recent Yoast study.
