Eric Enge

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Eric Enge lives in Southborough Massachusetts for the past 24 years, has three children with his wife and they recently all went on "great vacation in Punta Cana," he told me. I saw some of the pictures on Facebook, it did look warm and nice. He also told me it is a "pleasure of co-owning Stone Temple with my wife Beth Dill, and she’s a great partner to have in helping the company grow and prosper." I've known Eric for well over a decade now and I have no idea they worked together - I guess that explains why his company does so well. :-P

Eric is special, special for so many reasons. He not only runs and employees a nice size SEO firm, he is always the first to sponsor an event in the SEO community. He is always giving back to the community in terms of his time, resources, and money. Heck, just at a recent conference, we had a no-show for a speaker, he literally put together a presentation on the topic within a couple of hours and got up on stage and gave the talk. It was awesome.

Eric does everything all the other people we honored here do, with the content, sharing knowledge, speaking, etc. Eric is known for taking it to the next level. Want to write an article about AMP? Forget a simple case study - let's mine huge amount of data so we can really dig deep into it. He does huge studies, reports and write ups that require huge budgets and resources and he does it because it helps the industry.

Looking at Eric's career and what he has done for the industry makes most of us look like we are kind of worthless. I can literally go on and on about Eric's contributions but I am on a timeline here. :)

Eric, thanks for all you do!

Eric received two nominations:

I've known Eric for about five years now, and I can say there are few people as solid gold as he is, in or out of the search community. I met Eric on Google+, worked with him on a few projects and have worked for him full time for about two years now.

In each interaction with Eric, not only is his technical expertise obvious but his commitment to being a genuine, honest and uplifting human being shines through. As successful as Eric is, I truly believe that one of his great motivators is the success of others.

It's a privilege to know Eric, to work for him and to be involved in a search community that honors Eric Enge.

Whether it be his frequent blog post updates, sharing independent studies, tests and research, video chats with Google, to his Next10x conferences, it’s clear that Eric is giving back to the search community that he’s so passionate about. He (and his blog) is one of the first people I turn to when I need to cite a quote or case study from an industry professional. He’s an expert on all things search and always willing to share his knowledge and findings - and seems to hide no tricks or tips for himself. To top it all off, Eric is a great, down to earth guy who is always a pleasure to talk to and be around.

Eric Enge Bio: Bio: Eric Enge was named by the US Search Awards the 2016 US Search Personality of the Year, and was also the Search Engine Land's 2016 Search Marketer of the Year. He is also co-author of The Art of SEO (published by O'Reilly), along with Stephan Spencer, Rand Fishkin, and Jessie Stricchiola. Eric keynotes many industry conferences, and is the CEO of Stone Temple Consulting, a 70+ person digital marketing agency based in Massachusetts.

Favorite thing about the SEO community? My favorite thing about the SEO community is the general sense of togetherness we all have, and the high levels of coopetition in it. People are really share a tremendous amount.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? The most important advice I feel I can give to SEOs is to love learning and love experimentation. We live in a world where the rules are not clear, and that’s not going to change. Google can’t provide transparency on their algorithm, or it will imperil their business. O the best way for us to help our clients is to invest in helping figure out what we can about improving their results with Google. That requires a commitment to both testing and learning. Embrace it, love it, and you will be far more likely to prosper.

Favorite things in general? Favorite things to do: Researching tech stuff (OK, geeky, but true), playing basketball, exercising, fine dining, fine wine, but most of all spending time with my family.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? I hope that people will feel that I’ve contributed in some way to the overall community knowledge of how SEO and digital marketing work. I’m the only one in my family that is not a university professor, so teaching is in my blood.

You can learn more about Eric on his corporate site, check out their SEO studies and of course follow him on Twitter or connect with him on LinkedIn.
