Chinua Achebes Google Doodle

Today on Google's home page is a special Google logo, a Doodle, for the Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe. He was born on November 16, 1930 in Ogidi, Anambra and passed just a few years ago at the age of 82 on March 21, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts.

He won the Man Booker International Prize in 2007, the St. Louis Literary Award in 1999 and The Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize in 2010. His most notable works include Things Fall Apart, No Longer at Ease, Arrow of God, A Man of the People and Anthills of the Savannah.

He is considered the father of modern African literature. Google wrote:

His pen brought to life the land and traditions of the Igbo: the hum of everyday village life; the anticipation and excitement of sacred masquerades; the stories of the elders and the honor of warriors; the joy of family and the grief of loss.
