Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • Yahoo! Site Explorer Available for the UK and Ireland
Kevin Gibbons blogged about his recent discovery that Yahoo Site Explorer is available for users in the United Kingdom and Ireland. His blog post contains screenshots of the tool, but UK members can access Yahoo! Site Explorer right here. Is it any different than our regular Yahoo! Site Explorer? Not so much. However, Kevin makes the following observation: From the searches I've done they seem to be ordering these with UK links towards the top,
  • Yahoo's April Fools Joke Includes Video Search Ads
Werty discovered at WebmasterWorld that Yahoo's search engine was throwing a nice finger at you when you searched for the finger in Yahoo. It all came from their announcement on their blog, Yodel Anecdotal. But it's not really the fact that they are showing you the finger that should be interesting. The results integrate the new Yahoo Video Search Ads. (On that note, Google Video Ads are already live.) Here's what you'd see if you
  • Guy Kawasaki's Alltop Features Prominent SEO Blogs
Less than a month ago, entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki launched Alltop, a site that combines the best of the best in an easy to read format. Over at Sphinn, Kalena Jordan acknowledges that a number of known SEO blogs made it into the Alltop SEO category, Search Engine Journal, SEO by the Sea, SEO Book, Search Engine Land, Matt Cutts, Bruce Clay, Dave Naylor, SEO Scoop, Search Engine Guide, and others. But that's not all. What

  • Google Showing Same Result in Positions 20 Through 120
This is no April Fools joke, Google is really showing the same search result for some queries in special cases. A WebmasterWorld brought it my to attention and then I was given a way to reproduce it by Andreas. The first thing you need to do is limit your search results to show only one result per page. You can do that by adding &num=1 to the URL string after searching. Even after I tried
  • We've Expanded Our Google Subscribed Links Feature: Subscribe Today
A couple days ago, I announced on my personal blog that I expanded the keyword list that triggers the Google Co-Op subscribed links from showing up. If you don't remember, the Google Co-Op subscribed links are a way for a person who trusts your content to tell Google. Once you trust our content and Google knows it, Google will then show our content for specified keywords (that I choose) in the Google web search results.
  • Is Google's AdWords Spider Lowercasing Destination URLs?
A WebmasterWorld thread has an advertiser complaining that Google's AdWords spider appears to be lowercasing the destination URLs they have. The thing is, the lowercase URLs for this webmaster don't work with the site and they don't have the time right now to implement 301 redirects for each URL. jdMorgan, WebmasterWorld's AdWords moderator, asked: Are you sure that's AdwordsBot, and not a scraper crawling through a Google proxy? I've seen abuse from those "ff-in-fNN.google.com" hosts,
  • Google's Cutts Asking for Feedback on March/April '08 Update (The "Dewey" Update)
On the last day of March, I reported on a major Google search index update which seemed to have impacted tons and tons of SEOs, as opposed to just a ton of SEOs (if you know what I mean). Yes, I even noticed changes in the search results and I really don't even look that carefully. Based on all the feedback at WebmasterWorld, Google's Matt Cutts (yes, he is still at Google) added a post
  • Scrolling Arrows Now On All Google AdSense Ads?
Over the course of a 24 hour period, there has been an increase in reports that Google AdSense has been placing the arrows on many more AdSense ads. We call them scrolling AdSense ads and we first reported Google testing them back in December of last year. It seems like Google may have made this feature a default for all standard Google AdSense ads. Here are two examples from two of my sites, which did
