There seems to be a bug with the Google Video advanced search feature for sorting by date.
When you select the sort by date, the results seem to be the same as if you selected sort by relevance. I tested this on several queries and the video results did not change when using the sort by date versus sort by relevance (which is the default).
Try it yourself, barney videos sorted by relevance vs. barney videos sorted by date - look the same?
A Google Web Search Help thread reported this bug this morning. No ETA on a fix yet.

yeah. it seems like the submit button for the advanced search page should be at the bottom, but its at the top right which makes me believe that changing the options below (like sort by date) dont apply when you hit the button. ugh this is frustrating!!!

They have totally removed it from the advanced search options, so looks like it changed from "bug" to "feature." And now Google Video Search is pretty much useless.
