Ruben who is excellent at spotting new Google user interface tests, has spotted yet another one and posted the details in the Google Blogoscoped Forums.
This new test, as you can see from the image in this post, has the icons removed from the search options on the left. The icons that were originally introduced in 2009 with the Jazz user interface is now being removed for some users.
This test seems to be going on with the new Google top bar test at the same time. I personally do not see it but Ruben posted a screen shot.
The icons kind of grew on me, especially since the colorful icons came to the mobile search interface.

They already dropped the mobile ones didn't they as they kept opening just as you were about to click something - and moving everything so you clicked the wrong thing. Or am I still I a long-running test without them?!

I'm with you, keep the icons. Without them, the left menu looks kinda boring. Besides if you're in another country using Google, you won't have to know how to read the language to navigate the left menu.
