Google Maps To Get Shiny New Look & Feel

Pegman Google MapsGoogle Operating System reported that Google is completely redesigning and revamping the Google Maps user interface and design.

It is a complete overhaul of the design, features and interface. No longer will you use a side bar navigation area. The navigation is more mobile-like with box elements throughout the mapping interface. Talking about the mapping interface, the colors, styles and text were redone. Google+ social features are more in your face, with the ability to filter by what your circles like. Plus, the ads are now floating below some of the navigational elements.

Here are screen shots from Alex:

When will this launch? The rumors are around Google I/O time. I personally do not see it but these screen shots are very revealing.

Great Idea! NOT...Take a fairly clean interface and crap it up with "social" and ads over the top of the search results. I don't give a flying F*** where others want to go. I'm trying to get somewhere that is important to ME. This is why I stopped using Google search.

The UI color scheme and icons looks like Apple Maps.

Eventually all map applications will have zero contrast and just be an elegant uniform tan. The ultimate clean look. There is a huge market of people that would like to be able to see the streets other than interstates. This may look great in a dim room on a apple cinema display, but is useless in a car on a sunny day.

I saw a redevelopment site that has not yet happened, on google maps . it is a prediction not an actuality/
