Google Replaces Places App With Google+ Local App

Google+ Local iOS AppJade from the Google+ Local team announced in a Google Business Help thread that they launched a revised version of their local app, previously Google Places - as Google+ Local for iOS.

The new app is now in the Apple app store over here and was rebranded for the Google+ Local changes from about a month ago. The new feature changes include:

  • Zagat Reviews In The App
  • Ability to search via Voice Search. Simply tap the microphone and speak your query
  • Improved UI for searching for places that aren't nearby.
  • Switched to using OAuth2 login for improved security

It looks pretty slick. I hear the voice relies on google search but Google is building a Siri type intelligence based on user usage.
