There are dozens of complaints in the Google Web Search Help forums from those running Windows 8.1 and running Internet Explorer 11. They are saying that Google looks all weird and runs in legacy mode.

Here is a picture from one user of the search results.

Google Looks Funky On IE11 Windows 8.1

Is this impacting you?

Then try this fix. Go to Tools then click on the Compatibility View Settings. Remove check on "Use Microsoft Compatibility lists".

Then you should be fine.

I'd call that a bad user experience and hit the site with a black and white animal of some kind.

Could it be a tactical move from Microsoft to make the less computer literate users move over to bing?

I thought this, I wonder if MicS could alter future IE versions with some default ADD blocker that needs to be manually turned off? I know they would lose out with Bing adds but since they rely on other forms of income they could hit G hard and once BING is on more of an even footing then start releasing future IE with add blocker disabled as default! I would love to see G humbled a little!

Yes, because supporting Microsoft tradition of using underhanded tactics to try and undermine the competition is fine...... The funny thing is MS even tried to blame this on Google, saying Google had changed something (the HTML/CSS hasn't changed) then had to admit it worked if you switched it back using the compatibility mode which clearly shows its not a Google problem. If I was Google, I'd be strongly considering putting in an anti-competition complaint in to the courts about this latest version of IE. Hard to believe its coincidence that it just happens to be Google's site that stops working all of a sudden in MS's latest browser update.

Sad we have all these standards and yet I need three browsers to make ever web site display correctly? OK I think somebody is getting different standards mixed up. I totally think certain sites favor certain browsers. So just put at the top of your web site which browser I should use.
