Google Apps & Gmail Down For Many

Google Apps ErrorSince about 8am EDT, Wednesday, April 17th, Google Apps and many of the products within it, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Chat and so forth are down for many - including me.

There are tons of complaints on Twitter, Google+ and Facebook.

I posted a message on Google+ asking if Google Apps is down for others and everyone said yes.

It seems to be coming up for some now but for the past 45 minutes, it was completely down for most Google Apps users.

It also seems to be up and down for most right now.

The Google Apps Status Dashboard says everything is fine - but you and I know it is not.

Forum discussion at Google+.

Update 9am EDT: Based on the number of visits this post is getting right now, hundreds of thousands of users are still affected.

For more updates on this outage, feel free to follow me on Twitter or on Google+.

04/17/2013 01:21 pm

we use this for work and it's down, now our customers cannot reach us, basically we are at a standstill, and we are paying for this?

Hey nick. Stop blowing up the messages

mat sonke

04/17/2013 01:21 pm

you realize, of course, that this type of problem is just as likely to happen with any cloud service right? It's like saying "this is what happens when you drive a Ford" after you get a flat tire.

04/17/2013 01:22 pm

can't login to my gmail account

Drew Hannush

04/17/2013 01:23 pm

Just a friendly reminder that critical documents are still better served on an internal network, rather than a third party application.

04/17/2013 01:23 pm

In the same boat..a lot of our customer service and sales representative are unable to receive emails from our newsletters. If this happens again, we may need to look else where for email services..

04/17/2013 01:24 pm

Up and down all morning for me. Uhg!

Slovakia,., finaly up

04/17/2013 01:34 pm

GMail is down too. Google Apps mail, calendar, docs, sites, admin portal all down. Many of us moved to google apps because the service was better than hosting your own mail server... or would not pay for an exchange server. I still choose Google Apps. They have had it right for quite sometime. But I agree they have to reduce these sporadic outages!

04/17/2013 01:35 pm

Mail is like my girlfriend, it never goes down. And when it does I'm not in the mood.

04/17/2013 01:43 pm

Yes thats the price you pay for giving away your privacy to Google...and on top of that it goes down.

04/17/2013 02:32 pm

You right and is much better...

04/17/2013 02:35 pm

Use is much better guys...

When I this, my first reaction was "thank goodness my Gmail is working". Then it immediately switched to fear, "OMG what if my Gmail goes down too?". Now my conclusion based on my reaction and the huge amount of visitors to this post, we are way too dependent on Google! What a scary thought.

04/17/2013 07:47 pm

Seemed to be working for me personally up until concerning an hour ago.

04/17/2013 11:30 pm

I used Google & got in a porno site and almost could not get out of it. Was this problem causing that?

04/18/2013 07:34 am

Wow just by reading the Title of the post I knew what to expect in the comments.. That's right it is scary how dependent we are on Google these days.Hell even our phones are dependent on a G OS.
