Today is Earth Day throughout the world and Google, Bing,, and also YouTube have special logos or themes today for the day. But as many of you know, China had a major earthquake yesterday killing almost 200 people and injuring an astonishing 11,000 plus people. So while Baidu and Sogou, Asian based search engines typically have earth day logos - today they have earthquake logos to help those in need.

Let's first start with the happier Earth Day logos and then I'll share the earthquake logos.

Google has an animated Earth Day logo that shows the sun and the moon. Here is the static version followed by the animated version captured in the video:

Google Earth Day

Here is YouTube's tiny logo:

YouTube Earth Day

Bing Earth Day Earth Day

Search Engine Roundtable:

Now, here are the sad earthquake logos which all lead to resource pages for those in the area that need help or want to help.

Sogou Earthquake Logo

Hope China recovers quickly from this.

Here are the past Earth Day logos from 2012, 2011 Earth Day, 2010 Earth Day, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004.

Note, there is one complaint about the Google logo so far, that the way the sun shines on the letters is wrong.

No, it says on the home page: "Not to be confused with, this is not associated with Barry Schwartz's Search Engine Roundtable by any kind."

The complaint you mentioned has nothing to do with how the sun shines on the letters. It has to do with how the moon is lit.
