Bug: Bing Sitemap Pending

Jul 29, 2011 • 7:55 am | comments (21) by twitter Google+ | Filed Under Bing SEO

A Bing Help thread has a solo report of an issue with Bing leaving new sitemaps in the "pending" status.

Sitemaps can be submitted to Bing via their Webmaster Tools interface. The issue is, if you recently submitted a sitemap file, it may just be sitting in "pending" status.

Bing Sitemaps Pending

Will from Bing confirmed the issue saying:

Our product team is aware of this and is being addressed at this time. Currently, we have no ETA yet due to testing and developing.

It is hard to tell how far back the issue goes but there is an Bing Help.

The problem has been ongoing for at least a month for my sites. Bing is completely non-responsive. Solution: don't bother submitting and avoid the agro of dealing with MS.

I cant even delete old sitemaps in Bing.  I get an "unexpected error" every time.  Posted a question about it, but no one there is answering at Bing.

same here. Moreover last time bing crawled my site was 4/3/2011. That's just outrageous ! Google catches new data on site within 12-24 hours... Bing is catching up with Google they say... yeah right...

Is Bing sinking? The link above that says, Bing Help is broken. Clicking it shows "Bad Request." Not a good sign. And our sitemap still pending for over a week. Sit and wait...not a good business plan Bing. You'll never catch Google like that.

It's September 8th - you still haven't fixed this yet? How do I know I"m being submitted ? This is kinda 101 guys....

Having the same issue (and it's 9/19/11).  Also, for some reason, I can't submit a compressed sitemap. e.g. sitemap.xml.gz - Bing doesn't add it when I submit it (google is perfectly fine with this format).

As someone who manages our companies entire site + PPC, the issue is this: if Bing dont get their sitemap submission system sorted, why the heck would I want to trust PPC on BING? I bet I am not the only one here that would be thinking the same.  Bing/Microsoft: fix this and then you may get more $$ coming through your doors.
