Bing Increases Integration With Facebook Likes

Bing Facebook LikesBing has announced they have tightly integrated the Facebook Likes data they began using back in October into the Bing search results.

I believe this move is to counter-act Google's announcement of their tighter integration of social search elements into the search results.

With Google, these social integrations can influence the ranking of the results - it does not appear to be the same with Bing's Facebook integration. It seems that if a Bing search result does have any Facebook like data, then Bing will label it under the search result. Bing will not boost a search results in the rankings based on that data - at least not yet. Also, Bing has Facebook likes, whereas Google does not.

Here is a before and after screen shot of Bing displaying such results with Facebook likes:

I think Facebook likes are going to become a big factor in rankings in the future. Pretty soon 90% of active websites will have some Facebook related data and Bing will be able to capitalize on it.

I find this creepy, There is no doubt that people will be easily swayed if FB friends are below the SERPS. What happens if this is exploited (Tricking people into liking links). What about the rude awakenings when you see a link to the "3rd Reich" or "Anarchists-R-us", and your buddies name is right below pictures of ADOLPH, or that racy link? Keep search and social separate. (I think it will create more problems & distractions) Searchengineman

Personally I think this is a positive...anyone trying to do anything tricky/spammy in Facebook will have their account blown up. I believe Facebook is slowly killing the Keyword in search and it will be the Like that wins in the end and Bing has aligned themselves with a winner.

I think it's a great idea as things online are becoming more socially inclined these days. We know how big facebook is right now as well the 'like' functionality. I also think that this will put Google in a very uncomfortable position. It is also a good idea as long as they don't heavily weight the search results on the 'likes'.  People have been cheating the search engine algorithms since the first search was on the internet.
