Search Engine Land Does Major Revamp: Becomes More News Formatted

New SELandSearch Engine Land has a new look as of this morning. The new look really makes the site look more "news" oriented. Stories are no longer in chronological order all the time. We (I am the news editor) have the ability to control which sections the content shows up and for how long. This is great flexibility that Danny, Greg, Matt and the rest of the team will use.

In addition, my favorite feature is that readers can comment directly at Search Engine Land. This way, if you hate what I wrote, you can blast me right there. Instead of having to submit the story to Sphinn, or sending me hate mail. This should make for good times.

There is also a new premium membership, which I recommend you sign up for. You get a lot in return and it is your way at giving back to the community. I personally do this at many sites, including WebmasterWorld and SEOmoz, amongst others.

Huge kudos to the team who worked for months and months to get the new design, features and format live. It totally is impressive and makes me want to redo the Search Engine Roundtable - which would mean scrap Movable Type for a custom built CMS (I will never go with WordPress).

Anyway, I hope you like the new features - I sure do!

"I will never go with WordPress." Wow. That's a strong statement. Do you mind explaining why you dislike wordpress so much? :)

Not a dislike. I just don't want to deal with patching it every two weeks. WordPress is a clear target for hackers. WordPress is also a great blogging system, we use it at SELand.

That's a shame. Search Engine Land used to be the first stop on my daily list of blogs to read. But now that the posts are no longer ordered chronologically, it's no longer worth my time to browse it. Nor do I like the cramped page layout. Good luck with that.

Michael, you don't use RSS? That honestly surprises me.

Barry, I'm not a gadget kind of guy. I'm one of the few people who actually likes and prefers to use Google Chrome because it's a straight-to-the-point browser. I don't have time to sort through a hundred RSS feeds. I just want to hit the blogs and see what's happening. Otherwise, I'll have to catch the latest buzz in news and blog search. SE Roundtable was my number 2 stop. Now it's number 1, unless you feel it's time to change the format. That's all the fuss I feel inclined to make over this issue.

Michael, Glad SER is #1 now for you. But I am pretty sure you can still use SELand's RSS feed URL and view that fine in a browser. So just go to the SELand's RSS feed, instead of their home page, and articles should be sorted in order. Still would love SER to be #1, but don't want SEL to be #0. :)
