Yahoo Site Explorer Showing Less Links Recently?

A DigitalPoint Forums has reports from dozens of webmasters that their link counts in the tool are way down.

Some users are reporting as much as of an 80-percent reduction in the number of links Yahoo Site Explorer is finding for their sites.

Lost about 75% on all sites today.

Ya! This was a huge drop though..not the usual slight fluctuation. i lost like 12k links.

I don't track my links on a frequent basis for this site, but I was able to dig up a past link count that I posted here back in October 2007 where I found I had 216,880 inlinks reported. Today, Yahoo Site Explorer reports I have 271,196 inlinks. So I don't see any reductions and I also checked some tools that might have been tracking this for me on an automated basis and I see no reduction.

(1) Either this site was not impacted or (2) This was a temporary bug that is now fixed.

Are your Yahoo inlinks report down drastically?

Mine fell precipitously on Tuesday, but by yesterday afternoon they were back up. Out of curiosity, I checked some of our competitors, and most showed the same pattern, but some stayed down. You probbly missed the adjustment.

I have seen between a 20% and 40% reduction in external links reported by Yahoo! site explorer. I track external links on a weekly basis for one client, and I saw a 30% drop from just 5 days ago. Visibility hasn't been impacted, though.. indicating it's just the reporting.

We see constant fluctuations in link counts from Yahoo Site Explorer. It's probably not very odd to see small changes in counts as links and/or websites are removed. It is discouraging though to witness large jumps (both increases and decreases) but the fact of the matter is there are few tools out there besides YSE that provide some reliable numbers.

My links fluctuate quite a bit. One day I'll have X amount then a few hours later I'll have lost about 15% of those links. It's weird.

In the past our site was showing around 300 links in Google webmaster tools, but around 900 in Yahoo. Google is now showing around 280, whereas Yahoo is showing only 116. Our link numbers are not at the scale of some of the sites mentioned but still show around an 80% decrease. Another site new site I am involved with has dropped from showing around 150 links to 7! I really don't think these links have disappeared, rather Yahoo just isn't reporting them.

we have seen a huge drop in links starting yesterday. none of our sites have anything in common and some sites i monitor for competition have shown the same drop. in a few cases 50-70%

I have seen a large drop too. We own one site which had 910,000 links sitewide and rising before the drop, now showing 510,000. No discernable reason so guess it is a glitch or change in the way links are monitores. Many of our links are hotlinked images so maybe to do with that?
