Presidents Day Google Algorithm Update?

I was chatting with a few folks who are convinced of a major Google update. David Ogletree was the first I know to spot this. So I revisited a WebmasterWorld and sure enough, since the 18th of this month, four more pages about a possible Google update.

Now, I suspected something was lingering when I wrote about the Possible Google Valentines Day Update but Matt Cutts of Google knocked me down with his comment.

But this truly does appear to be a Presidents Day Google update.

Roel at WebmasterWorld wrote:

A big drop in traffic over the weekend / last 2 days for me. Anyone else seeing this?

Followed by dozens of responses confirming this.

WebmasterWorld administrator, Tedster said:

I don't see this as a true rollback - some of the SERPs I monitor have a whole new configuration.

Based on this thread, I think this is the real deal.

Forum discussion at WebmasterWorld.

I wrote about this over at Spider-Food last week. I've also discussed it on SEORefugee. I've been calling it the February 2007 Google Update.

But this one started Friday the 16th. Can you give me a link to spider food please?

Seeing traffic changes but nothing in the serps ummm..

I'm seeing similar patterns starting around Valentine's day of last week. I had over 100 terms with a number 1 placement that have dropped into the 20s and beyond. I've seen traffic drop by about 25% as a result. The results seem to be weighing more to those with a national presence rather than local shops. Many of those with national presence just have a template with a location filled in to correspond to the page which leads me to believe Google has loosened the reins a little as we've spent the last 4-5 months developing original content for each location and went away from the template approach.

Barry, I started my Spider-Food thread on the 17th:

I saw some major changes kick in for a lot of SERPs this morning. Not sure what to make of that.

Thanks!

Let's see if Matt stops by...

Also, if you see thread in other forums that you feel should be covered here, please submit a thread via the form.

Thanks!
