Google has been testing since 2013 but has done so more often in 2016.
Now, in 2017, it looks like Google is pushing the box/card layout design for search again. I have had close to 20 people email, tweet at me, or whatever about this test. It seems a ton of people are in this Google test bucket. Personally, I cannot replicate it, so I will share one of the cleaner screen shots someone shared with me.

Again, this is a test Google has been trying for years, more so in 2016. I guess they are testing it out again in 2017.
