I personally have disabled the omnibox search suggestions or autocompletes in Chrome but a bunch of SEOs are saying Google is now showing image thumbnails in those search suggestions. Search suggestions here turned on by default with Chrome 69 last September - now we are up to Chrome 74.
Here are tweets and images from people in the industry that are saying this is new.
