How Can I Lower My Google Rankings? Keyword Stuff, Link Spam & Hide Content

Feb 11, 2008 • 9:56 am | comments (11) by twitter | Filed Under Google Search Engine Optimization

This morning, I wrote a parody post on what you shouldn't do when you ask for a link. Now let's take it a step further. Another WebmasterWorld thread asks how you can screw up your rankings and bring your site from page 1 to page 5. If you really wanted to know, here's what you can do as suggested by others:

  • Hidden stuffed keyword text
  • Use reciprocal linking to all sites that link to you
  • Remove significant content which would impact the way search engines see the page.

Why would you want to do something like this? Beats me, but as the forum member says, it's "reverse engineering." Perhaps it's a way to better understand the Google algorithm.

Interesting. Would you add anything to this list? For the full list, see the post at WebmasterWorld.

So don't use reciprocal links to all sites that link to you? Hopefully this is a PR based suggestion and the point is to not link to poor sites. Look like I have some more research to do!

Barrie you should only use reciprocal links in a limited fashion, and if they make sense. Finding out every site that links to you and then linking to them I think is the joke here. For more see this article on reciprocal linking:

Friends !! I understand that you dont want to find your website ranking well in search engine. Right !! If thats the thing you want, then why are you going after changing related content, adding images and doing the other SEO stuffs ? Why dont you simply edit the robots.txt present in your website and restrict all the bots to enter your website. Dont you think its a one line and a simple process to get the job done ?? Lemme know if I'm wrong

On a tangental vein, does anyone have any ideas on how to supress bad information about a person that shows up on a google name search? Lets say someone had a spate of bad press many years ago and is trying to "rehabilitate" themselves, but finds that the old history keeps on showing up on a google name search. I know one can't hide from there past, but google will never let them even minimize it if the negative information shows up in perpetuity. Any thoughts?

well if you show up on ripoffreport and website the like, you want to demote your listing there. Its called reverse seo and many companies that care abt their reputation should do it if they find out they are listed on such websites...
