According to numerous reports and a WebmasterWorld thread, Yahoo is rumored to be looking to acquire MySpace for 25% of its company stake, which apparently is equivalent to $12 billion.
With Yahoo's acquisitions of Flickr, del.icio.us, MyBlogLog, and Rivals.com, we're aware that Yahoo likes to involve itself in the social sphere. But we're not sure that MySpace is worth so much.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if Yahoo acquires the #1 social network, second to Facebook.

I think that there's more perceived value here for Yahoo! When they opted not to purchase Google, Google then took the lead and became a true market leader. There's no doubt that Google is years ahead of Yahoo! still today -- but if Yahoo were to buy out MySpace, they could also nulpt the advertising deal that Google has in place with MySpace. Valued at just under $1 billion -- that would be a tremendous hit to Google's wallet.

It is really mind-bloggling to think that a company that was bought for $580M could be even in the ballpark as being equal to 30% of Yahoo! Almost sickening too, IMO.

Eric, even so, $12 billion is a substantial amount of money. It feels like desperate times if they're going to go out for that much.
