Jade Wang from Google said in a Google Business Help thread that updates submitted via the old Google Places dashboard may be delayed by a few days.
I don't think this is new information for most local SEOs but it is nice to have on record.

Updates from the old dashboard do indeed take a bit of time to apply publicly -- I'd expect a timeframe of a few days. So some of this behavior you're experiencing may simply be that delay.
So if you do make any updates to your Google My Business (Places) profile, it very well may take a few days to update - so relax.
